Yes, I have accepted a position to do HVAC work in Iraq. This will be strictly support work for American troops and not any Iraqi rebuilding.
My reasons are multi-faceted. This is not a whim. This is  not a middle aged crisis. This is financial, support for my country and personal interest all combined into a well thought out decision
I believe in what my country is doing in Iraq. I am proud of the young Americans who have volunteered to put their lives on the line for what they believe is right.

While I will not be where the most dangers lie in Iraq, I will be able to aide in the comfort of those who are. This is for me, a small way of showing my gratitude to our President and to our troops.

Our President has had the moral sensibilities to make decisions that are not popluar and may lead to his political demise. I am proud of him for being able to put the safety and future of Americans ahead of his political career.

Our troops are men and women who have volunteered for the service they are involved in. They are putting their lives on the line for what they believe is the right thing to do.

I want to play an active role of support in what I believe is right.
Financially, I will be netting about 3 times my current pay. Since I will be at work 24/7 which is 3 times more than usual, this basically is not that much of an incentive as a matter of dollars per hour are concerned.
While I will not be able to enjoy or experience the immense biblical history that surrounds this region, I will still be a part of where human civilization began. For me, this will be quite gratifying.
If all goes as planned, I will be leaving around the end of October, 2004 to spend a year fulfilling many goals.
My decision to take this postition is having an immense affect on those who are closest to me. I hope they all understand, or at least support my decision. My hopes are that all of my relartionships will be stronger when I return to a normal American life back in the safety of the good ole USofA.
